Sometimes, especially when my mental health is poor or my cPTSD symptoms are raging out of control, I simply can’t read. Then it’s back to Media or Podcasts. Here are a few of my Netflix and Prime recommendations, as well as favorite podcasts.
Media
Mission: Joy – finding Happiness in Troubled Times
“His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu joined forces one last time to share ancient wisdom and cutting edge neuroscience that shows us exactly how we can each access more JOY, no matter our circumstances. And just in time, during these dark and divided days.”
Best. Ever. Can’t rave enough about this documentary. The friendship and humanity shines through. Oh. And when it comes to aspects of people I adore, the emotional openness and absolute lack of judgement of the Dalai Lama is like catnip to me.
The Sandman
Adaptation of Neil Gainman’s graphic novels. I’m usually not a huge fan of adaptations of books, but so far I like the American Gods and Good Omens adaptations too.
Wheel of Time
I love Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Times Series. Yes I have the entire collection. I started reading it in my early twenties, so it’s been a constant companion for almost half my life. Although the series does not follow the books, it’s none the less a great and epic story to watch. Plus Rosamund Pike has been a favorite actress of mine for years.
Carnival Row
Just watch. That’s all.
Podcasts
Serious Trouble
Ken White and Josh Barro
I follow both Ken and Josh’s newsletters, so them teaming up to talk about things I already am interested in, is like a balm to my overactive brain. Unlike their previous podcast “All the President’s Lawyers,” this podcast discusses a much wider variety of current events. With wit, a lot of insight, and little political slant. Added benefit: re-listening to old episodes helps me fall asleep. Which for someone who has suffered from insomnia for years, is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.
